After completing his studies at the Weiner Leó Conservatory under the guidance of István Enreiter, Dániel Szomor continued his double bass studies at the Académie de Musique Tibor Varga in Switzerland with Professor Ferenc Bokány, and later at the Conservatoire de Lausanne as a student of Professor Marc-Antoine Bonanomi. He then obtained his diploma at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, in Professor Duncan McTier’s class.
During his university years in Zurich, he won a two-year scholarship position with the Zurich Opera House Orchestra, where principal bassist Dariusz Mizera mentored him. While at the opera house—first as a scholarship holder, then as a substitute musician—he also had the opportunity to perform with the La Scintilla Baroque Orchestra under the direction of William Christie, among others.
At this time, he increasingly turned towards early music. He became a regular member of the Capriccio Basel baroque orchestra and, in 2008, won the audition for the principal double bass position in the historically informed Kammerorchester Basel. During his years in Basel, he performed with numerous early music ensembles, including Café Zimmermann, Capella Gabetta, I Barocchisti, La Folia Barockorchester, Orchester 1756, and Capella Leopoldina.
As a member of the Kammerorchester Basel, he toured the world and had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned conductors such as Giovanni Antonini, Diego Fasolis, Ottavio Dantone, Trevor Pinnock, Paul McCreesh, and Thomas Hengelbrock, as well as distinguished soloists including Cecilia Bartoli, Sandrine Piau, Matthias Goerne, Sol Gabetta, Kristian Bezuidenhout, Isabelle Faust, and Christian Tetzlaff.
In 2020, he returned to Hungary and became a member of the Orfeo Orchestra. In addition, he is a regular collaborator with the Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra and the Hungarian State Opera Orchestra, while continuing to be a guest artist with the previously mentioned international ensembles.
