Masterclass: Fortepiano masterclass
Petra Somlai

The Hungarian-born pianist, who lives in the Netherlands, graduated from the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music after completing her studies at the Bartók Béla Secondary School of Music in Budapest. During her studies, her focus turned toward historical keyboard instruments, their repertoire, and historically informed performance practice. She studied harpsichord and fortepiano in Birmingham (UK), Amsterdam, and The Hague (Netherlands) with leading masters of the field. In 2010, she won First Prize as well as the Audience Prize at the prestigious International Fortepiano Competition in Bruges. In 2011, she graduated summa cum laude from the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and subsequently received the Hungarian Junior Prima Primissima Award.

She is a regular guest at prestigious festivals such as the Utrecht Early Music Festival, the Musica Antiqua Festival in Bruges, and the Bach Festival in Dordrecht, and has also appeared at numerous festivals throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas. She has made numerous CD recordings on historical keyboard instruments, covering repertoire from early music through Brahms.

From 2013 to 2015 she was a professor in the Department of Early Music at the University of North Texas, and since 2015 she has been a professor at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague.
