Up and coming conductor Yael Front is looking forward to an exciting 2017-18 season as music director of the Cincinnati Chamber Opera and the University of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, as well as Conducting Fellow with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.

Originally from Israel, Ms. Front has been living and working in the United States since 2013. Soon after her arrival, she was named music director and principal conductor of the Cincinnati Chamber Opera. With this vibrant new company, Ms. Front has had the pleasure of conducting unique and challenging works, including Der Kaiser von Atlantis by Victor Ullmann, Händel’s Ariodante, Cimarosa’s Il Matrimonio Segreto, and The Little Prince by Rachel Portman.

In 2015, Ms. Front was awarded 3rd Prize in the London Classical Soloists Conducting Competition and was selected to take over the University of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. In summer of 2016, Ms. Front served as assistant conductor for both the National Music Festival in Maryland and the Atlantic Music Festival in Maine. She is a recent recipient of both the International Peace Scholarship from P.E.O. International and a John L. Magro Foundation Scholarship.

Ms. Front graduated with honors from the Thelma Yellin High School for the Arts. There, she began composing and arranging Israeli art songs, instrumental pieces and music for the theater. In 2011, Ms. Front completed a Bachelor’s degree in orchestral conducting from the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (JAMD), with Dr. Evgeny Tsirlin. At JAMD, Ms. Front was conductor of the JAMD Wind Ensemble and assistant conductor for the JAMD Chamber Choir, JAMD Symphony Orchestra and JAMD Opera. During her bachelor studies, Ms. Front formed the ‘Gvanim’ Children’s Choir, Ramat Gan and in 2012, she participated in the ‘Tedarim’ project, a year-long contemporary music program for outstanding young musicians.

Ms. Front is currently finishing her doctoral studies in orchestral conducting at the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), University of Cincinnati, with Mark Gibson after completing her Master’s degree there in 2015. At CCM, Ms. Front has led a wide range of works, notably Mozart’s Così fan tutte, Cendrillon of Massenet, Adam’s Giselle, Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade and Cruel Sister, by Pulitzer-Prize winning composer, Julia Wolfe.

During the 2017-18 season, Ms. Front is scheduled to conduct symphonic, operatic and music theater works across the United States.
